Student support grant
Purpose: To support ANU students studying South Asia to attend a conference, or complete their thesis work.
Amount: A maximum of $800 may be sought per application.
Eligibility: Only available to SARI members who are ANU postgraduate and HDR students, studying South Asia topics. Accepted applicants could be asked to provide proof of conference registration or approved travel request from their school.
The 2024 Grant Committee will be led by Dr Chitra V with additional support by the SARI Board members.
Selection: SARI will prioritize applications from students who have not already received such funding in the previous years. SARI will also prioritize applications from students who are willing and able to volunteer for SARI activities.
Workshop funding
Purpose: To support ANU students or staff studying South Asia to hold a workshop.
Amount: A maximum of $2,500 may be sought to fund the workshop.
Eligibility: Only available to SARI members who are ANU students or staff.
Supervisor endorsement: Please ask your supervisor to provide a paragraph in support of your application, and include it in your online application via the webform link below.
Occasional lecture funding
Purpose: To support ANU students or staff studying South Asia to hold a public lecture or seminar.
Amount: A maximum of $500 may be sought to fund an occasional SARI lecture or seminar.
Eligibility: Each SARI member is eligible to receive one grant per year.
Deadline: Applications are considered on a rolling basis and are subject to funding availability.
New Colombo Plan - Australian undergraduates
The New Colombo Plan involves a scholarship program for study of up to one year and internships or mentorships, and a flexible mobility grants program for both short and longer-term study, internships, mentorships, practicums and research.
Deadline: The opening dates for the 2024 round will be published in the first half of 2023.
Bhati Family Travel Grant to India
Purpose: This annual grant aims to foster regional interconnectedness and encourage talented students to build mutually beneficial relationships between Australia and India by supporting current ANU students from any discipline to undertake research in India. The grant will assist current ANU students from any discipline who need to travel to India for their research.
Amount: $3,000. One grant is available per year. The grant is paid in a single instalment to the recipient prior to their approved travel, to assist students with airfares and actual expenses related to travel.
Eligibility: Continuing ANU student who is:
- a domestic or international student;
- enrolled in an ANU undergraduate, postgraduate or research program and;
- undertaking travel to India for their research.
- the applicant has obtained approval of his/her supervisor and has established a link with an institution in India
Travel for study or research must be undertaken in the year the grant is awarded.
Australia-India Council Grants - DFAT
The Australia-India Council’s mission is to advance Australia’s foreign and economic policy interests by building awareness and understanding between the peoples and institutions of Australia and India. The Australia-India Council will support projects which will improve perceptions of Australia in India and/or of India in Australia and build sustainable collaborations.
Grant proposals should either: establish new, innovative and dynamic linkages; overcome an existing identified problem; or leverage a major event to build deeper relations between Australia and India.
