Abstract: The Visnupurana, a Sanskrit text of about 7000 verses, reached its final form in about the 5th century of the current era. It is one of the earliest attempts to create a history or the world, and is an important source of narratives about the deity Visnu and his avatars, especially Krishna. I have embarked on a five-year project to translate the new critical edition of the text into English.
